HAIR COLOR TREND 2020: TWILIGHTING

HAIR COLOR TREND 2020: TWILIGHTING

No, Twilighting is not what happens when you are super fan of Edward Cullen of the Twilight series. Instead, it is a unique coloring technique that is going to be the most asked for look at hair salons this year. We spoke with celebrity hairstylist Rene Fris to learn how to get this new hair color trend.

What Is Twilighting?

This new look helps to transform your winter look of a darker brunette into something that has more of a warm undertone, says Rene. While this highlighting process was created for people who have brunette hair already, it can also be done on people with blonde or red hair as well.

Why Choose Twilighting?

Rene suggests that this trend will be so popular because it is so low-maintenance. You’ll be able to transition into a brighter color in the summer if you want, and even when you grow it out, it will still blend nicely with your hair. You will simply have to get a small touch-up every 3 to 4 months just to keep the color looking fresh and adds some dimension to your hair.

What To Ask Your Stylist For To Get This Look

When looking at the pictures of this new trend, you might think that it just looks like brown hair with golden highlights. While this isn’t wrong, Twilighting is a little bit more than that because it adds brightness and dimension to your look.

When you ask your stylist to get this look, Rene suggests that you make sure to stress that you want a dimensional look. You will want to ask your stylist to make sure the hair around your face is bright, and the depth and darker strands are pulled more towards the back.

He suggests that you bring in a few pictures to your stylist to make sure you are getting the look that you want. Ask your stylist to find the balance between balayaging and foiling because placing the highlights in the correct place is essential to getting this subtle look. You don’t want the highlights to be too uniform, but instead using foiled “babylights” that help your hair look multidimensional.

Maintaining This Look Between Appointments

Even though this is a low-maintenance look, you can still take steps to make sure that you are properly caring for your highlights in between appointments. Make sure that the shampoo you are using is safe for color-treated hair, like this cleanser from Rene Fris’ line. It also is silicone-free, sulfate-free, and paraben-free, which is good to protect your hair further from the damage of dying and styling your hair.

You can also cut down on how often you wash your hair. By skipping the shampoo, you can keep the natural oils in your hair, helping to keep the frizz away. In addition, you might want to consider deep conditioning your hair every week and reducing the number of days you use hot tools on your locks.

And, if you are due for an appointment, you can switch up your styling techniques. Rene suggests that you do something simple like switch up your part. By changing the side, making it an extreme part, or zig zagging it, it can help you make it to the next appointment.
